In the world of soul r&b singer, Nixon Payne, superstardom is a given not an option. Her experience with singing in front of churches, universities, and talent showcases has molded her ability to entertain, which in turn has created show stopping performances. Nixon Payne’s love of music began at the age of five where she sang in the youth choir. Growing up in Charlotte, North Carolina, the art of music was embraced by her family and in their own way each of them would show her the diversity and creative aspect of it. She credits her aunt to introducing her to soulful ballads. As a child Nixon and her aunt would spend hours listening to ballads and enjoying what they believed was a unique style. She would leave her aunt’s house and return home only to continue listening to more records on her mother’s turntables. Her father had a love of rock music and would often listen to The Isley Brothers and various hard rock groups when she was around. Although Nixon started to develop an eagerness and keen ear for music, it was her attendance of a Janet Jackson concert at the age of nine that ignited her burning desire to perform. As a teen, Nixon competed in talent showcases throughout her junior and high school years. In some of these competitions she walked away the winner, but in others she felt the feeling of defeat. She went on to college to only continue performing in talent shows and various organization events. Since this time not only has she engaged her audience in captivating shows, but she’s also refined her musical resume, opening up for popular acts such as r&b singer Raheem Davaughn, jazz artist Johnathan Butler, and alongside Grammy Award winner Ronald Isley. As she continues her quest for national attention she remains openly humble to fans in North Carolina who’ve showed her much love and support. You can catch her performing hits such as “Postman” and “Heaven” at local clubs in Greensboro, NC and surrounding areas or hear her recent collaboration hit “Celebration” with the mayor Celinski on the radio.
