Biography

The sound of NOVA is exactly as you would imagine from the name. Big, bright and powerful. It’s a heavy, anthemic, atmospheric and ever-shifting juggernaut that draws on the best of classic and contemporary hard rock, bringing to mind such touchstone bands as Soundgarden, Deftones and U2. Essentially it is a sound that can knock you off your feet one minute, then pick you up and soothe you the next. Technically in existence since 2005, NOVA took shape when Rob Bujak, living on the east coast, got his hands on some demo’s front man Gabriel McGahee had been working on. “After I heard the songs I called Gabriel right away, and literally the next day, I shipped my drums out to California, bought a one-way ticket and joined the project.” The line up soon rounded out with guitarists Aaron Goforth and Nick Young, and bassist Scott Proctor. Though the other members were separately involved with a variety of Bay Area-based rock projects, they realized quickly that none of these other bands matched the chemistry and intensity NOVA was achieving. The guys soon decided to drop what they were doing individually and make NOVA the top priority. Their first release NEPENTHE out in April 2009 shows the band as a force to be contended with. With driving tracks like Perfect Mistake, Overrated and You are Dirty Water which was featured on the Iron Man 2 Videogame soundtrack (1.2 million copies sold to date) and radio ready ballads like Thought that I knew You. Nova’s NEPENTHE is a fantastic debut album. Sadly lack of distribution killed any chances of the album breaking out…even with extensive touring throughout the USA for the remainder of 2009. 2010 brought a change for the band, now signed by Digital Indie Label Rogue Records America (formerly Rogue Records Online) the band’s latest release Castles for Crows has worldwide digital distribution from the label reaching new listeners and fans across the globe. The single CALIFORNIA was released on August 22nd ONLY on the bands official website…36 hours after its release it amassed 23, 596 downloads…an amazing feat in this day and age with music. The video for the single was released on YouTube on August 28th. California will also be featured on the Rock Band Network in October on Xbox 360 and PS3. NOVA has its sights set on success with this release. Songs like California, All in My Head, Wasted and How Long have thick catchy riffs and hooks that stick in your head for DAYS. Other songs like Broken Windows, This City and She’s Suicide show the band’s sound moving in a new direction…the band is growing and so is their sound…
