About Novae

Landing, NJ

Novae's Recipe
- one part Keane
- one part The Fray
- a dash of Ben Folds
- a pinch of Coldplay
Shake well and serve to fans of Maroon 5, and toast to The Beatles.

Novae frontman and keyboardist, Rich Genoval, alludes to a dedicated classical upbringing, while channeling his urban roots to deliver soulful grooves, catchy hooks, and revealing storytelling lyrics. All of this is backed with powerfully tight and honest vocals to develop a sound all his own: 'piano-pop for the poetic'. Being involved in many aspects of the music industry for the last 20 years, one could confidently argue that Rich has seen it all; from international television spots to local radio exposure. As an emerging NJ-based acoustic solo act, "Novae" had earned a strong regional following, working local/regional venues from the local pub scene to performing the Star Spangled Banner at the Prudential Center. In 2009, Rich decided to take the act and sound to a new level, surprising his loyal fanbase. He recruited the most talented and ambition-driven musicians he could find...and "Novae" was reborn. Today...the band combines the soulful, powerful vocals and key-stylings of Rich Genoval, the tasty groove-rock licks of seasoned axemaster, Mark Scandariato [guitar - formerly of Mary Karlzen band], The bold and funk-laden underlining of Jim Arra [Bass - formerly from The Alice Project], laced up tightly with industry vet Kevin Hill sitting in the pocket on drums, "Novae" has morphed into a full-fledged, radio-ready, Smack-Your-Bottom soul-rock band. Mark Scandariato: Guitars/Backing Vocals - -
Seasoned guitarist and writer, Mark Scandariato is a driving force behind the "NOVAE" sound. His tasty, colorful guitar work and powerful songwriting has been heard worldwide during his time with The Mary Karlzen Band. Mark has worked and graced the stage with industry legends such as Bob Dylan, Jackson Brown, Ben Folds Five, Hootie and the Blowfish, Nil Lara, Loudon Wainwright...ah the list goes on and on...

Jim Arra: Bass
No pun intended, Jim can seriously hold a bottom-end and make it scream for dear life. As a former member of The Alice Project, Jim is no stranger to the music scene. And if his funk-laden and melodic style of play doesn't grab an audience by the you-know-whats...his massive stature will! Yes, folks...this is no camera effect...he's really that much taller than the rest of us...

Kevin Hill: Drums
Having shared the stage with industry greats such as Gavin Degraw and the Pat McGee band, Kevin Hill (formerly from local sensation, Fooling April) is no newcomer to the pop music scene. As a highly sought-after studio session player, Kevin's impeccable timing and driving, heart-thumping style is noticeable right on the downbeat. (The kid can 'find one' in his sleep! Trust me, we've asked him!) Among his vast array of styles, Kevin's strong jazz and rock background is taking Novae to new heights!
