The results of a soul made of music. Cola C. Outlaw Jr. was born March 15th in Newport News Va. Music is simply a part of who he is. His influences number too high to list here. Suffice it to say he is Essentially Universal. He first picked up an instrument with the attempt to learn it at the age of 25. A late bloomer no doubt, but in some ways that worked in his favor. Talent, he has. But more important to his musical journey is his focus. He formed a musical partnership with Jonathon S. McNeil in early 2002 that included writing composing, and recording songs with the intent to form a band ala Steely Dan. With McNeil and Outlaw being the primary members with other musicians revolving. The partnership ended in 2006. The duo recorded dozens of songs but with no real direction went nowhere. The story of that partnership (written by Outlaw) has recently been published under the title, "Gotta Lotta Mo' Wreckas The story of the greatest band that never was". Available at Amazon.com Barnesandnoble.com and Xlibris.com. There was no giving up on Outlaws' part though. It was just a matter of trusting that God gave him music to do. In early 2010 Outlaw formed a group with Andrew S. Oliver (guitar), Evan P. Kelly (guitar), Outlaw (bass), and Jeremy George (drums) called Lucid Nuance. The quartet began playing in Kellys' cellar and was basically a jam band in the beginning. But after weeks of playing together began the process of writing and composing songs. George ended up leaving the band, so in late summer Lucid Nuance entered the studio as a trio with Outlaw handling drum and bass duties. Their first album was completed in December 2010 and is in the process of being released. You can hear pieces of Outlaws' musical journey right here on Ourstage. Take notes people who are more about the art than the money. (although it would be nice to make some)This guy is just like you...
