BIO Music written conceptually, each song is meant to paint a picture according to the message and lyrics. “We want people to feel the music like we do” – Eric Riddle. Freedom, a song about breaking through the barriers of the world and finding liberty through God, progresses hand in hand with the lyrics. Patriarch’s has something to say, something relevant to our people and our time and they make no compromises in delivering this message. Patriarchs began when Jarad Bean and Eric Riddle decided to form a new band (late 2007). They didn’t want to necessarily do something “different”, like most bands aspire to, they simply wanted to create music that “gives people chills.” Eric and Jarad had been in two bands together already (Eversfield and Vengeance Is Mine) and felt strongly that they continue their musical careers together. They began to look for other members, with two definitive attributes in the forefront; faith and passion. Shortly after, they considered long time friend Ethan Talley, from Benton, Illinois on vocals. They had seen videos of him in various projects, (Prevent This Tragedy and Time After Time), but never live in real time. The first practice they knew he was the perfect front man for the project. For the next three months Ethan, Eric, and Jarad practiced and wrote songs without a name or any other members. They had tried out numerous guitarist, who were all talented individuals but didn’t mesh with what the band was going for. In mid June of 2008, Eric heard that Clint Dunlap (Takeheart, Reaching Without Arms, Hot Gates), a guitarist he had known about for quite sometime through friends, was moving back home. Within a week of him returning he was in. All that was left was a bassist, Jarad suggested to Eric that Jason Maggard, their best friend, try out. They were unsure about this at first because prior to, Jason had never played a show, been in a band, or even played music altogether. A couple weeks later the band was recording at Chango Studios, and Jason played his parts perfectly. Within that short period of time, the core unit was formed. All five guys collaborated on deciding a name, they wanted something that would provide hope and encouragement not just to kids but to the world, a name with a real meaning behind it. Eric suggested Patriachs because of the biblical significance and strong theme of integrity, honor, and responsibility, and that immediately stuck. Patriarchs looks to record their full length by mid 2009 and hopes to be touring by late 2008.
