Biography

As part of California's emerging 1960's folk-rock scene, Penny Nichols honed her musical talents along with her friends Tim Buckley, Jackson Browne, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, and Linda Rondstadt. Later, in San Francisco, she played music with Steve Miller, Janis Joplin, Jefferson Airplane and others. Later, in San Francisco, she played music with Steve Miller, Janis Joplin, Jefferson Airplane and others. After releasing her first album Penny's arcade in 1968, she went on to work with Jimmy Buffett, Art Garfunkle, Jennifer Warnes, Arlo Guthrie and many other artists in the 70's and 80's. For which she recieved a Platinum Album for her work on Son of a Son of a Sailor and 3 Grammy Nominations. After recieving her doctorate in music education from Harvard in 1991, she continues to work in the field of alternative folk music and has released a number of new CD's and sets of vocal and harmony lessons includiing her newest release of original songs: "I'll Never Be That Old Again". Penny has been the founding director of SummerSongs; a non-profit organization for songwriters, since 1999, which puts on 5 retreats every year around the country.
