Philly Black started out writing Hip Hop music in 1996 while in the United States Army stationed at Fort Stewart, Georgia. Philly Black recalls writing his first rhyme to the beat of Second Round Knockout (the Canibus diss on LL) he kicked the rhyme to his brother over the phone his brother told him that he had some talent but he needed to work on some things. Right there Philly Black knew that he had a gift a talent to write rhymes from there his journey began little did he know that the journey would be long. Philly Black then got reassigned to Camp Casey Korea and hooked up with Black Rose Records a small upstart label run out of a club called Black Rose located in Dongducheon or Tongduchon South Korea. Philly Black recorded all of his earlier work and hook up with a group called Urban Theory they recorded a unreleased album there featured song called Thought Awareness was released on the compilation album by Black Rose Records in 1999. Philly Black was also featured on two other songs on the compilation album called Ambitious (by forte from NC) and the other Symbols of Death (by Hooligan from NC). All Philly Blacks performances were conducted within the club setting and one talent contest that the USO held. Philly Black returned to the States in 1999 still writing and doing corner performance but was trying to promote and get people to listen to the compilation album. After about 1 year he had to get on his grind and pay bills so the music had to wait he left the scene well before people in the states knew he was even in the game. In 2002 he picked up the pen and pad again and started to reconnect with the music Philly Black felt that he had something relevant to say because today’s music is going too far to the left and need to be balanced out. Philly Black believes the artist that he is today and the Hip Hop music he creates can help turn the minds back toward the middle ground and help restore the balance once again. Philly Black is and always will be a Hip Hopster lyrical thought doctor who has love for the lyrical and not just the beat subliminal.
