When life is nothing but a 9-5 job and cold winter nights in New England, you’d be surprised what you might find creeping out from those residents who call it home. Five of those people, hailing from both New Hampshire and Massachusetts, have put together a 5 song EP called The Language of Man to express their emotions on this life, threw atmospheric guitars and haunting vocals, in a couple states that are more known for their breakdowns and catchy choruses. They call themselves Pira Reis and they want to take you on a journey. From the chilling opener, “The Analyst” to the emotive ender, “Oceans”, Pira Reis seeks to not put you into the ground with their riffs or to sugar-coat their lyrics, but just to let you float along through a wave of evocative soundscapes that let the music tell the story. The Language of Man may be small but it has a lasting effect that you don’t normally find in today’s music scene. This coming from a more thought out process of writing and an even crazier live show, for fans of atmospheric music in the vein of This Will Destroy You or Circa Survive, this is not an EP to pass up.
