Hometown swats About Me ABOUT POETIC ROCK: Cliff Harris (not to be confused with that other dude who bears the same name) was born in Bellflower, California. He fell in love with music and not just hip hop but all music while growing up in Compton. His older brother would deejay and mix tapes for the neighborhood and they would also listen to underground tapes from legends such as Mix Master Spades and DJ Train. Raised in the church, Cliff was forced to sing. His dad and uncles formed a gospel group called The Silver Tones and they recorded a Gospel album. Soon after his mother and father divorced; he moved to Atlanta, Georgia where he soon started to experiment with music. Cliff was influenced by Eric B, Rakim and LL Cool J but was inspired to rap when he saw neighborhood artist Eazy-E on the cover of an album. At the age of 14, he began to write his own rhymes and over the years became a fixture in music studios like Stankonia, The Zone and Rodney Mills. While attending Booker T. Washington High School, he was able to make a name for himself as “the guy who can freestyle.” In addition, he was part of the school band which broadened and enhanced his musical abilities. He progressed from writing raps to composing songs and from making beats to producing music. Over the years, Cliff has worked with many people such as Mr. Moody and has VIP acquaintances such as Bone Crusher, Lil Jon, Polow Da Don, and L Rock. Poetic Rock has performed at popular clubs in Atlanta such as The Royal Peacock, 112, Somber Reptile, Club 29 and he has a ringtone with Cingular/AT&T. Poetic Rock's popularity is evident all over Europe as well as the United States. His lyrics are dense, boastful, rich and complex, heavily-mainstreamed/pop-influenced and down-South inspired. He self-describes his music as “mental and melodic.” Cliff Harris aka Poetic Rock is establishing himself in hip hop as a force to be reckoned with.
