I'm a Canadian singer/songwriter/musician whose roots run deep in Alberta. I was raised on a farm outside of Big Valley but live in Red Deer, Alberta, Canada. Music has always been a passion of mine despite having no music program at the school I attended. Besides childhood piano lessons and a couple of guitar/vocal lessons, I play by ear and basically, self-taught. I know that a good song is much more than theory and prefer to sing with pure, raw emotion. Singing is something that I've been doing for as long as I can remember. Often I found myself alone with my piano and guitar playing melodic sounds with a flood of thoughts running through my mind, turning into a song and putting me in a place of peace and solitude. Writing was never intentional but I always felt it came naturally. It all started when I won first prize in a talent show with my mom when I was 12. Then winning a song writing contest for Chinooks Edge School Division when I was 14. It was my first performance in front of 587 people on a grand piano playing a piece that had "won" or been recognized for something. That let into being selected to play for Showcase 98 in Edmonton, AB. I was just excited that I had got a free holiday to the "city" and that my parents wouldn't have to pay for their expensive meals. I had no idea that from that day on music would take me on this incredible journey. I kept writing and performing where ever I could until I decided that I had enough material to make an album. After writing, producing and releasing my first album "Just Remember Who You Are", (which SOLD OUT @ HMV), as well as performing in a host of different venues for the past ten years, I have gained confidence in my music and myself and I am thrilled to share my songs and stories with everyone. I have made independent copies of JRWYA that are available at my shows along with other cd's I have recorded. One of which is a 4 song demo, recorded by Sandro Dominelli at the CKUA radio station in Edmonton, AB and a Christmas album recorded by Michelle Joly in Red Deer, AB. Part of the reason of who I am today is because of some amazing musicians that I grew up listening to. Jann Arden is one of my heros as well as Sarah McLachlan and so many other talented Canadian singer/songwriters. These artists have been great influences, and are the reason that I started writing. Over the years I have been fortunate enough to have shared the stage with some amazing musicians. Here are a few: Mavis Staples (The Staples Singers, also a Lifetime Grammy Award winner, National Heritage Fellowship award winner and a Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame inductee) at the Knox United Church in Calgary, AB. George Fox (3 time Country Male Vocalist of the Year and 3 time Canadian Country Music Awards winner for Male vocalist of the year) at the Legion, Innisfail, AB. The Armchair Cynics (Winner of the Vancouver Island's Annual Independent Music Awards), who signed with Chad Kroeger (Nickelback) 604 Records at Chillabongs Red Deer, AB. Colin Linden (Juno Award Winners Blackie & The Rodeo Kings) also 6 time Winner for Producer Of The Year at the MAPL Blues Awards at the Elks Hall, Red Deer, AB. Sandro Dominelli (Canadian Independent Musicians Award for Jazz Artist of the Year), Mike Lent (Multi-Juno Award Winner) & Jim Head at the Central Music Festival, Red Deer, AB. Wil (I break strings) Juno nominated Calgary based Rocker, opened twice for him at The Vat, Red Deer, AB. Bill Bourne (Multiple Canadian Juno Award winner) CKUA's 107.7 FM Grand Opening at the Lava Lounge, Red Deer, AB. Aaron Pritchett (2 time winner of the Canadian Country Music Association song of the year and Independent Male Artist of the Year)Radiothon/fundraiser for 98.9 FM & 95.5 FM at Parkland Mall, Red Deer, AB. I really want to thank everyone that has encouraged and supported me and my music. I don't know what I would do without you! I am excited to see what is yet to come. A new chapter has begun. Cheers! ~Randi~
