Starship to Baalbek

Sint-Niklaas

Biography

STARSHIP TO BAALBEK's dark pilgrimage sets out to conquer UNHOLY LAND, the land no one seeks. Yet, when stumbled upon, one has only one choice, and that is to enter. Words fail to describe what first meets the ear and then the eye. To gaze upon this world, is to gaze upon one-self, a mirror that reflects memories, hopes, and fears that are lost, the image of what never could have been. Not the wreckage of the past, but the ruin that is the future is brought to life, a celebration of the true self... STEFAN BROECKAERT (guitars) and LUC TRUYENS (bass, programming) have brought their own luggage to this journey. The bond founded in the early days of Orgasmaddix now vaguely resonates sludge, doom and post-rock and seems to follow a path that is set out by early hard-rock, thus not creating a soundtrack to the unholy land, but becoming the land in itself. This music festers, it is an unsorted heap of mental images guided by chords and structures that seem to go nowhere, but aim to go anywhere. This ship has stranded, what is left of the journey is to explore the place it has landed upon. Starship to Baalbek will be challenging visual artists to create their own imagery to this unconventional four-minute explorations. Images that stand by itself, contending with music that has passed understanding, showing pure life, without solice, make-up or cheer, showing no more than the cool of acceptance.
