Rolf Eikeland is a respected Canadian Christian singer/songwriter playing 70s classic rock and blues influenced by Clapton, Allman Brothers,The Beatles and Pink Floyd. The CD "Island Of Truth" by the The Rolf Eikeland Band was recently nominated for the 2009 Rock Album Of The Year by the Covenant Awards (Canadian version of American Dove Awards). Listen for strong melodies and lyrics about life, love and faith. Rolf’s Christian beliefs are
prevelant in the lyrics, but he does not wish to be
stereotyped as a gospel singer. “I respect artists in that
tradition and buy and enjoy their music, but the
Contemporary Christian or Gospel genre is too narrow for what I want to do with my
music,” Rolf says. “Once you become a “Christian artist”
you’ve lost a big part of the audience this band wants to reach. Just like a painter who is a Christian does not paint pictures of Jesus all the time, I write and sing about whatever I think is relevant, and often from a Christian perspective." The band plays mostly secular
events, hoping to take the message to others than the
traditional Christian audience. "The response has been
positive”, Rolf says.
Rolf has spent the last twenty years in the Toronto area but was born and raised in Stavanger, Norway. There is still a serious and somber Scandinavian somewhere on the inside, but also a bit of a crazed Viking. The multi-national culture in Toronto has made its mark too. Maybe that’s why his music is so varied.
The band have many gigs lined up in and around Toronto this summer. Rolf says he feels blessed to have band members that are both friends and good musicians. “Without them the new CD would not be a reality”. Check out iTunes, Amazon or the band's website www.fruitfulrecords.com to buy the CD.
