Ryan started playing guitar at the age of four. he quickly learned chords and spent a few years jammin to his dad's record collection; Buddy Holly, Elvis, The Beatles.. At 9, he saw Jonny Lang perform and the blues bug hit him hard. he began learning every blues lic he could and emulating the popular artists- Jonny lang, SRV, Buddy Guy, etc.. By 15, Ryan was beginning to play local shows with other musicians, and at 16 released his first album under the name "Ryan & the Del-Rays: 1949 Chevrolet Blues." he did short tours in Northern Minnesota, playing casinos, festivals and the like, sometimes sitting in with other acts. At 17, Ryan went into the studio again. This time it was First Generation Recording Studio in Minnetonka, MN. With friend and drummer Kevin Severson and the bass playing of Mike Carvale who at the time was playing with the Lamont Cranston band, 14 tracks were layed down and made it onto "Ryan and the Del-Rays: Absolute Custom." The CD sold a few hundred copies, and eventually, the band sort of stopped playing. Ryan finished school and began playing with drummer Cody Mehrman, and bassist John Christian. They played just about every weekend for a year in Northern Minnesota. Again, eventually the band broke up, and Ryan moved to Topeka, KS. Ryan has been playing for the last year with another band as their lead guitar player, (a band which just won a Best Blues Cover band award) but that band has since disbanded, and in the meantime, the drummer from that band Sam Hopper and Ryan are going into the studio to lay down the next album.
