SAVANNAHPHILLIPS.COM SAVANNAH! From the deep blue skies of the south to the blonde breezes of California, a new star appears on the horizon. “She was different ever since she was born,” Savannah’s mother will tell you. When she came into this world Savannah Phillips had a destiny, a purpose, a mission, unlike any of her other three siblings. She wanted to SING! From the time she was three years old, Savannah would make up melodies and dance around as though she knew what she was doing. Perhaps she did, as her childlike pretending lead her into acting, following in the footsteps of her older sister who was already in print. But there was something different about Savannah and sitting still in front of a camera would never do – at least not for now. Kindergarten was no easy feat, Mom reports. “Savannah HATED it! She would scream and cry the whole way there.” And it wasn’t because Savannah couldn’t keep up. Quite the contrary – she was way ahead! Truth be told, it was the blessing of having grown up with older brothers and a sister that brought an uncanny maturity to this little girl. By the time Savannah was eight years old she was living between the east and west coasts. The heartbreak of a divorce can grow a little girl up fast, and Savannah learned early on that life would bring more obstacles for her to either stumble on, or learn to use as stepping stones. And step right on she did. By the age of ten Savannah had garnered the attention of veteran artist developer, Frank Harris (Joe Jackson, Father MC, Kat Williams, etc.) Harris met Savannah in the lobby of a hotel in California as she was “straightening up the place.” Frank knew right then there was something different about this little girl! Upon further conversation, Frank learned just how unique this finding would be, which lead him to an artist development interest in Savannah to help her pursue her driven purpose – to sing! It was that relationship which introduced Savannah to the recording studio under the initial production of Angel Valentine (Tiny), and further offerings by Jimmy Hunter of Cazador Productions in LA who she continues to collaborate with. In 2007, Savannah was brought to Jan Smith Studios in Atlanta, one of the nations most notable vocal coaching and artist development facilities in the music industry. Smith typically does not work with young people prior to 13 years of age unless they are already prominent in a career within the music industry, or “unless there’s something different about them,” and that was Savannah. For four years, flying back and forth from Atlanta to LA, Savannah has worked hard to develop herself into a viable, marketable artist with something to say to other young people. “I can’t really think of anyone else I want to be like. I’d rather be known for creating my own sound and being unique in my own way.” In the Fall of 2008, her dreams came to a sudden halt when Savannah was diagnosed with a hereditary thyroid disease which would lead her into a delicate surgery surrounding her vocal cords. Though she was afraid of the possible damage that could occur to her voice, Savannah braved the corrective surgery, leaving her with only a small, pink scar – no worse for the wear and certainly learning once again to either stumble or step those stones. With the surgery successfully behind her, Savannah is back singing stronger than ever and wanting to share her story with other young people who might have fears that hold them back from achieving their best. There’s something different about her, all right. And yet somehow, she’s very much like every other young person growing up in a world with challenges, and heartaches, and hopes, and dreams. Savannah is just like you and me, and that’s what really makes her special.
