“ShaReal” … Just like a quiet wind, the piano begins to play in a splendid harmony in C Major. So beautiful, amazed how this is all being created so naturally in the left side of my cerebellum. The essence of Music is wedged deep into every fiber of my being. There is not a breath that passes through my body that does not exude sweet melodies, harmonious tones and soothing Sonatas. Born in San Diego, California I was thrust into the diverse world of Musicology at its finest. May 12, Balboa Park Naval Hospital…let the voyage commence! The late Edward George Bulwer-Lytton was quoted saying "Music, once admitted to the soul, becomes a sort of spirit, and never dies." and I encompass this feeling daily… Shieryl “ShaReal” Gaylan Smith was promised her life’s destiny early. My parents knew that I would be a singer very early on. Singing every song on the radio and TV my parents encouraged me to sing all the time. When I was four years old I remember being woken up from a deep slumber. My father picked me up out of my bunk bed that I shared with my younger brother Shiedrez. He would take me into the living room where my parent’s friends were partying. As soon as their friends seen me, they cheered as if I was who they came to see. I got closer and closer to the center of the living room. Next thing I knew I was on the coffee table dancing to Michael Jackson’s Bad and every other hot 80’s jams. The most enjoyable wait I can remember. I just could not stop singing and dancing to every song in bed. My spirit was too excited. I was never shy to hit a high note anytime anywhere… What’s even more intriguing about this particular prodigy is my cultural blend in respect to my nationality. As a Singer, Rapper, Songwriter and Entrepreneur I have as many talents as I do nationalities. Born from an African-American-Indian father and a Filipino-Spaniard mother, I was surrounded by many different genres of music. My music taste varies from rhythm and blues old school classics such as the Isley Brothers and Teena Marie, contemporary/rock such as Phil Collins and Simply Red, to Filipino contemporary love songs. Confucius said it best “Music produces a kind of pleasure which human nature cannot do without.” My performances are just as broad and varied as my musical tastes. Professional presentations range from Filipino Association Parties, Varsity School Choirs, Gospel Choirs, televised talent showcases, and local performances such as business grand opening parties and local night clubs. The only thing that I find greatly amusing, are the vast personalities in this industry. Many can’t take criticism many arrive with planet ego on their shoulders. And some are just straight up unprofessional for no logical reason. Thank God I love, respect and understand His beautiful creatures! Being a more experienced performer and entertainer my goals and passion has been more refined and focused. I feel music is a universal communicator, depleting all language barriers. This is the main reason why I feel so blessed with having my extraordinary talent. So that it may allow me to uniquely communicate my life’s experiences as well as touch others. With music practically raising our young society, there is a strong need for positivity and reality in music. My main focus is to be blessed and be a blessing. WITH HER SMOOTH MYSTIC MELODIES, AND POETIC WORD PLAY; “REAL” EXPERESSES HER LIFES SPIRITUAL PAINS AND JOYS… Music is well said to be the speech of angels. ~Thomas Carlyl
