Shekï (pronounced sHee..k eye) 18 years old was born Shekinah-Glory Kee-Green in Newark, New Jersey. She began singing with her church choir at the tender age of two. Audiences marveled at “the tiny girl with the great big voice”. Shekï has worked with a host of other artists in and out of the recording studio. She has also performed at various fairs and festivals through out the country. She cites gospel powerhouses Vicky Winans, Karen Clark-Sheard, and R&B artist Brandy Norwood as her inspirations. In her recent project, entitled Not A Lil Girl NE More, Shekï fuses genres and elements with a dash of Asian influence to produce a sound that’s uniquely Shekï. It has a very retro, even disco dance feel that anyone can appreciate and “It’s my mom’s favorite track.” “I Need You” is a song about balancing relationships between your girlfriends and your boyfriend when emotional demands compete or clash. “My music is about different feelings. Happiness. Sadness. Depression. Empowerment. Being in control. These tracks are about emotions everyone experiences whether young, old or indifferent. The songs ‘I Need You’ and ‘Show Me.’ I feel especially connected to these because they talk about things I have felt deeply. That’s the point. I want people to feel me…”
