When you think of all of the hip-hop artists in the state of Ohio, Bone Thugs N’ Harmony and ‘lil Bow Wow are amongst the first that come to mind. That is exactly what 22 year-old artist Shi’dimo would like you to think. With a style all of his own, Shi’dimo is not your typical run of the mill artist. In a time where lazy hooks and boring verses rule the rap game, Shi’dimo is determined to bring it back to the day where lyrics, hard kick drums and a hunger to be heard was the main ingredient when pursuing a hip-hop dream. And here to mark his foot print in the sand is none other then the artist himself: “Shi’dimo” Born March 5, 1985 in a small city just north of Cincinnati, Shi was introduced to music at a very young age. His mother ran a liquor house to make ends meet. Shi would be entertained by the smooth voices of Tina Turner, Gladice Knight and other classic soul voices as his mother would play music to entertain her friends. Shi’s parents realized that he had an ear for music. By age 12, Shi had realized that he wanted to be a rapper, and so he would sit in class and write lyrics in the back of his school books. He would even rap at the lunch table every day at school as his friends would sit around and cheer him on. By the age of 15, Shi learned what it would take to be a well established artist in the industry. By adding his own details of life in a urban area, with his lyrics that could often make a person want to get out of there seats and dance, Shi introduced a style of artist that was not really seen or heard of before. This made it a whole lot harder to get people to understand his music. So by the age of 22, Shi has fought for many, many years to be recognized as an artist all in his own image. Being born in Ohio, Shi is in the middle of America. With crunk music to the south, sampled hard-core music to the north, and “swagger-full” music to the west, Shi has kept all of that in mind while molding himself into the artist that he is today. Bound to one day be a house-hold name in the music industry, Shi fights tooth and nail to make sure that his dream of making it into the music business is in fact no longer a dream, but a reality. Living by the motto “No work, No eat,” Shi has been knocking down doors and is already a force to be reckoned with. He will soon be the force that is enticing radio stations, DJ’s, tv stations, and fans to all know that Shi’dimo is certainly not your ordinary, everyday artist, but is the fresh and unique brand that hip-hop has been yearning for.
