I (David L. Craig) am a Christian who's been a member of the same Messianic Jewish congregation for over 30 years. I've been married almost as long to a wonderful Jewish woman who is the mother of my four children. I produce most of my income as a technical specialist in the IT industry but some comes from my musical activity. I am passionate about all of the above. I use _Song_A'_The_Broadsworde_ as the name for my musical activity. _7th_Heaven_or_Bust_ is the first tune I've recorded. I'd love to hear what you think of it. BTW, the music is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 3.0 license, which means you can legally copy or even modify it but you have to credit me as the originator and make it available as I have. So it's free (although I'll happily accept donations!).
The Indie Band Survival Guide
_Beatnik_Turtle_ (http://beatnikturtle.com/), an extremely clever independent band, decided to share their experiences with increasing their visibility and cash flow without "benefit" of a record label relationship, as well as their reasons for maintaining their independence. They made that document freely available at http://beatnikturtle.org/guide/BeatnikTurtle-IndieBandSurvivalGuide.pdf and if you are a musician, I _strongly_ encourage you read it cover to cover.
Subsequent versions were picked up by a publisher and their value-add is not freely available but the contract stipulated the original would remain free.
Not surprisingly, a Web-based community formed around this concept of indies sharing ideas for increasing their viability which you might want to visit at http://www.indieguide.com/wiki/page/Order_the_Book to see what's going on and possibly get involved.
