-- Master guitarist, songwriter, music educator, author -- Recent accomplishments: Festival International de Jazz de Montréal 2009 Festival International du Blues de Tremblant 2008,2009. History of the Southside Denny Snyder band: The electric blues band is the device that began Denny’s reputation. After many different bands, Denny decided to start his own to begin honing his own musical ideas. In 1984, he formed the group “Southside Denny and the Skintones”, which became regionally known across a few states, and also began working in Canada, mostly in Ontario and as far west as Vancouver. This band also produced two albums, the first of which received a good enough amount of airplay to put them on the road. The second one featured legendary harmonicist Sugar Blue. (of Willie Dixon and Rolling Stones fame). The rest of the band members wanted to play only locally, but Denny saw the territory growing and wanted to continue as a musician. That brought about the Southside Denny Snyder Band, which over the years has employed so many different players it would be impossible to name them all here. However, the basis has always remained consistent as a three piece blues band featuring Denny’s songs and arrangements. At different times there have been fourth members, but for the most part it has stayed bass, drums and guitar lineup. The sound has also remained true as a hard edged Chicago sound, with hints of many different styles entertwined. After three more discs (Rollin’ Home, Rendez-Vous Blues, and Movin’ On), Denny got adventurous and produced Eclectic in 2003, which is a collection of acoustic guitar pieces that was quite the surprise to many of his fan base, and also brought in some new listeners. Roots and Branches, in 2006 was also a total solo effort, yet steeped more in his blues roots (as the title suggests) and half instrumental pieces. Thanks to a DJ named Dan Berhman from Radio Canada, who discovered a couple of these discs and began playing them on the air, the move to Montréal in February of 2007 has breathed new life into Southside Denny. Denny's latest disc, titled Full Circle was released in March of 2009 and features 13 (six instrumental pieces and seven with vocals) new songs in both electric and acoustic settings. Recorded and produced by Rick L. Blues in St. Hippolyte, Qc (Lac Echo) the first week of January, 2009. Support for this project was provided by Lindsay Pugh on Bass, Simon Meilleur on drums and also includes Denny's daughter Lorrie singing with him on two of the tracks. Rick L. Blues also plays harmonica on two songs, along with some extra help from drummer Cliff Alloy and Ivanhoe Jolicoeur on trumpet and flugelhorn. Other noteable facts: He conducts group guitar workshops covering a wide variety of subjects including blues playing, improvisation, alternate tunings, and slide guitar. First blues artist to ever perform live on Radio Canada, performing at Radio Canada Studios, Montréal. His band peformed regularly at Buddy Guys Legends in Chicago in the 1990's.
