STARZ WALKER Time is a precise sequence that compares durations of intervals and events and no one understands this better than Starz Walker. Born May 4, 1988 in Washington DC, Detron C. Walker grew up in the Woodland neighbor- hood of S.E. By age ten, like other urban youth, this soon to be musical prodigy was exposed to captivating essence of Hip Hop music. A year later, he would make the decision to pursue a serious career in rap. He took his stage moniker from a nickname that was given to him by his grandfather and started perfecting his craft as a top notch MC. As a member of his first and only rap group Young Ballus, he quickly realized that he didn’t need the assistance of a group and that he could do this by himself. At age sixteen while attending Maya Angelou PCS, he joined the school’s new internship to music class were he made such a lasting impression on guest speaker Marmood Hilton that he introduced young Starz to producer 88 Keys. Keys put Starz to work under his wing in the studio where he was introduced to R&B music songwriting. 88 Keys eventually set up a meeting between Starz and Byrd Records CEO Mr. Byrd. Also impressed by Starz’ talents, Byrd asked him to do some songwriting for his premier R&B artist Mimi Terrell, who’s debut album needed to be completed in six months and was being distributed by Universal Records. Byrd informed Starz that he was now part of their Universal Records deal as an artist and songwriter, so he proceeded to write two songs that would make her debut. He crossed his fingers for success, but when the album was released it had lackluster sales. In a studio session at Night Flight Studios, Starz ran into producer Rich Harrison and R&B group 3LW. After time spent in the studio, Harrison wanted to sign Starz right away, but a meeting between Byrd and Harrison dissolved the situation. One night Starz came across Raheem Devaughn in the studio and the two built a working relationship which led to him co-writing Devaughn’s second single “Believe” from his debut album The Love Experience. Starz had a feeling that this would gain him the critical acclaim he deserved as an established music industry songwriter but again his efforts went unrecognized. After his two year stint with Byrd Records, Starz became discourage and decided to take a two year hiatus from the music business. Upon his return, he met rapper Skrooge. He and Skrooge became good friends and started a musical bond. He wrote a single for Skrooge titled “I Got A Place” which received nationwide spins which motivated him on working on his own material again. Starz decided to sing on the track and it wasn’t until then that he found out that he could actually sing and sing well. They shot a video for the song and he performed it at an Obama political party event, where at the end of his performance he received the thumbs up sign from The President himself. Soon after, he opened for rapper Scarface at Legends, one of DC’s most popular nightclubs. Now armed with new music, and a solid management team, the singer/songwriter/rapper/producer with a relentless passion for music will finally get his day to shine. As the saying goes “All Good Things Come to Those Who Wait” and for Starz Walker the wait is over, his time has come and the time is now.
