“Please lose your mind, and dance the night away.” is usually the general request that lead vocalist Isabelle Banos makes to the crowd about to embark on the experience of a StereoChic performance. The instructions are always graciously followed and for some mysterious reason, the band members can’t help but do the same. Only a short time ago, it was guitarist, Banos, and drummer Lana Cooney who began jamming for kicks, realizing they spoke a common musical language that their newfound friendship was just beginning to reveal. Shortly after, their close friend, Jessie Kravitz, brought her bass to the party and helped further materialize the group’s vision. Although most certainly enjoying themselves, the three would quickly realize that something was missing. Playing songs they were not entirely in love with, it would take Laura VanVlaardingen and her synthesizing savvy to put the finishing touches on what is now known as “StereoChic”. Fusing together the thick and deep electronic textures of the 80’s, irresistibly danceable beats, and oh-so-haunting harmonies, StereoChic has created a sound that is covertly familiar yet completely reinvented as their own. Playing various shows in and around Montreal, StereoChic has received an overwhelmingly gratifying response. Long-term dedicated fans and fresh faces alike seem to have been struck by this unique sound. Having won a qualifying show in December 2009, StereoChic moved on to place second in the Montreal finals of the www.supernova.com “Break Your Band 2009” competition. The band was also featured in a Supernova showcase at the recent CMW music festival in Toronto! The combination of these tangible reactions, the aggressive demand of their ever-growing fan-base, and the band’s constant urge to make people move is pushing StereoChic to write new material in hopes of soon releasing an EP; one which will humbly ask you to please lose your mind, and dance the night away.
