Biography

Sunspot is the KISS of geek-rock and Van Halen for Nerds. It's all the fun of flashy rock but with the satisfaction of substance over style. Sunspot is the KISS of geek-rock and Van Halen for Nerds. It's all the fun of flashy rock but with the satisfaction of substance over style. With monster choruses, face-melting guitar solos, and sweet harmonies, Sunspot brings the swagger of the stadium to the pocket-protected masses. Their concerts are as enjoyable to watch as they are to hear. While fearlessly engaging the audience through obscure pop culture references (crowd favorite "Scott Bakula" is a testament to that, even being used by the man himself, as the theme for his 50th birthday party), clever and often bitingly funny interplay between the band members, and an action packed performance- Sunspot never forgets that the audience is just as part of the show as they are. In 2008, after releasing four CDs, Sunspot decided to eschew the traditional album model for their next set of songs and release one song of their best material each month. Combine that with a new video each month and a themed live show to go with each new tune, Sunspot is forging ahead of the curve. Sunspot has already opened for Death Cab for Cutie, Hot Hot Heat, Sponge, SevenMaryThree, Pilot to Gunner, and House of Large Sizes. Even punk legend Milo Aukerman joined Sunspot on stage for a show-stopping rendition of Descendents' classic, "Hope." In addition to their relentless tour schedule throughout the Midwest, the band has also branched out with multiple national tours performing raucous concerts in eight out of ten of North America's largest markets, including Canada. In 2004, their sophomore album, “Loser of the Year” was named Album of the Year by the Madison Area Music Industry. In April of the following year, members of the Wisconsin Area Music Industry awarded Sunspot its highly coveted Group of the Year designation. Sunspot's hit South by Southwest, Midpoint Music Festival, Millennium Music Conference, and has toured coast to coast and they're constantly performing throughout the Midwest in support of their new songs.
