Rock quintet Surround Sound materialized in Geneva, IL, following the 2003 dissolution of the area punk band Slow Motion Massacre. Bobby Lord, Justin Park, Dave Stach, and Jake Anderson collectively decided to change their band's name and musical style after seeing Anderson's older brother Zack perform with his power pop outfit, the Velvet Velvet. Determined to undergo a complete transformation, the guys switched up on their instruments as well. Main songwriter Lord went from drums to vocals/guitar; Anderson traded bass for drums; Stach changed from lead guitar to bass; Park went from rhythm guitar to lead. Taking influence from the Beatles, Matthew Sweet, Teenage Fanclub, Superdrag, and more, the guys worked on crafting catchy songs that complemented a high-energy live show. Surround Sound became an official five-piece two years after forming with the addition of Zack Anderson on rhythm guitar and keyboards, after the Velvet Velvet had broken up. With an average band age of 18, Surround Sound's debut full-length, The Sun Is on Our Side, was issued in 2006 on Flash Phobic.

Surround Sound assembled 14 thoughtfully crafted, guitar driven pop songs on The Sun Is On Our Side ... a general feeling of youthful enthusiasm high energy, razor sharp guitar riffs and clean vocals all wrapped up in pure pop melody and hooks aplenty thrown into the box for good measure. Every single song here is ultra-sexy and seductive with smooth guitar powered dynamics turned up to make sure it`s not too slick sounding or saccharine. It`s all ultra-catchy and terribly long-lasting in its pleasures revealed and one Not Lamers catch this rising star, you`ll be hearing a lot more about this band on blogs and on the net. Extremely Highly Recommended!!
