Performance Poet and the author of "alifepoeminprogress" by Chuma Spirit Books, LLC. My work can best be described as "the love that I make through my art to the vision of the unseen reality." Poetry is the rhythm of life peering through the body for interpretation. It is breathing, walking, doing, loving and awakening. It is limitless in its ability to reach across genres and varying walks of life. Poetry is transforming. I create poems that expand boundaries through story telling, movement and breath. I have to write. Life calls herself “poetry.” From my first poem in grade school, I enjoyed painting pictures of my community through the written word. I wrote about, culture, music, family life, love and being a girl. My poetry didn’t always flow and it didn’t always rhyme. Sometimes it was broken and then sunny, laughing then crying; but it was always in the threads of my garments and in my teeth. Early on, I embraced wordsmiths such as Langston Hughes, Nikki Giovanni, Sonia Sanchez, S. Pearl Sharp and Haki Madhubuti because they captured the essence of the human spirit with credibility. As for me, I will not rest until my work touches. Tantra-zawadi is a member of Collective Spirits and kicked off 2009 with their "Love Planet EP" produced by Jonny Montana and Neil Maclean (Camio Recordings), showcasing Bennett Holland on keys, Tantra on poem and Dana Byrd on vocals (www.traxsource.com).
