Born and raised in the Bronx, Hardy Donte’ Bell is an emerging solo artist who has been writing and performing his own music since the age of nine. Born on November 22, 1990, Bell is now referred to as L.i. in the music industry, short for “lyrically intelligent”. “L.i” was in love with music from an early age and was inspired by the voices of Luther Vandross, R.Kelly, and Donell Jones. When he was nine, L.i had been singing in the church choir for many years, but performed his first solo, singing Michael Jackson’s “Climb Every Mountain” to a large audience of people. Coupled with his confidence on stage, and the crowds’ enthusiastic response, L.i knew at that moment music was what he needed to do. L.i continued to perform every opportunity he had, at school and church events, cultivating his talents and exploring his musical abilities.
It wasn’t long before L.i began demonstrating his diversity and musical depth and started writing his own songs. L.i’s passion for songwriting took immediate center-stage and he began writing every day, until he was penning his own tracks, writing the entire internal structure of his songs, including the verse, hook, and bridge. For the last 10 years L.i has been committed to pursuing a future as a successful singer-songwriter, writing as many as 4-5 records a day. Like many great songwriters L.i believes songwriting helps listeners to understand, experience, and remember the emotional message at the heart of songs. L.i has the inner creative passion of an old soul- he is sensitive and experienced and listeners are surprised to learn he is a mere 20. L.i says his songs tell the tales of his life experiences and the experiences of others; the pain and the pleasure of life successes and downfalls. “Music has given me the ability to transform life's lessons into words.” L.i has become known for the versatility of his music, running across genres and crossing age lines like few songwriters can. L.i is now considered a multi-talented young musician who has impressed the music industry with his ability as a singer and songwriter.
L.i has recently taken his songwriting skills into the studio to record his two original singles, “Pressure” and “Dangerous Love Affair” which were overseen by acclaimed industry producer, “Staff”. In collaboration with famed industry producer and manager Teddy Rux, L.i is recording “Save You”, his originally written, upcoming single for 2010. L.i’s mix tape and upcoming album have also received production from platinum producer, Self- Service. L.i is also currently in development with multi-platinum, Grammy award winning producer, Chink Santana. Chink, who has produced songs for artists such as Ashanti, Jim Jones, and Keyshia Cole, has contributed to several tracks for L.i’s upcoming mix tape appropriately titled, “Penmanship”. When asked about L.i’s musical abilities, Chink responds, “This kid is hot as hell, the next big thing. His pen is phenomenal.”
L.i is talented musically and lyrically and is driven to tell his story through his music. He is devoted to his records and believes in their message-“they are all of importance- they all reveal moments and experiences from my life- they are authentic songs.”
