The Best is widely considered to be one of the top four or five motivational rock bands to spring from the Fenton, Missouri area in the past several years. Brendan O'Malley and Mike Walsh formed The Best while working together as low-level service employees in corporate America. Sensing (and ultimately, capitalizing on) the personal and spiritual void undeniable in today's corporate business environment, O'Malley and Walsh came together in the Autumn of 2003 and composed their first hit, "You're the Best!!!" Although motivational rock at its core, the song was also highly personally reflective and profoundly moving. It inspired dozens at its premier at a corporate slide show in December of 2003, and its message of hope and personal redemption has touched several (dozen) more in the years since. Following the success of "You're the Best!!!" (burned onto compilation CD's by an estimated 80 people), The Best went into a period of their own self-doubt, in which O'Malley and Walsh lamented that there was so much more to them than just one hit song. Their sophomore effort, "The Rest", was the obvious outcome of a struggle to exorcise the demons which had not totally been set free by the release of the their first hit. Writing two songs was hard, but coming up with a third took them on a journey that will likely go down in history (in terms of journeys of motivational rock musicians). They were put to "The Test" emotionally and responded with a hit as subtle as it was inspirational and as introspective as it was full of pain. Two down-on-their-luck kids from the slums of St. Louis? Three hit songs in less than six months? It's the stuff dreams are made of; almost as if "Lightning Struck Thrice". Undoubtedly, the most self-referential of their hits, "Thrice" brought together, in just over 4 ½ minutes, the inspiring and motivational history of a band that will surely be remembered by many (dozens of) people for many years to come. The Best took a five-year hiatus after the completion of "Thrice". However, after struggles with emotional addictions, two horrible (and costly) divorces, and the birth of a child, O’Malley and Walsh reunited in 2009 to produce a greatest hits collection. The EP, entitled The Very Best of The Best (All the Best, Vol. I) is due out in early 2010. For more information, please visit our website at www.motivationalrock.com. It’s been a long, long road... but it’s the best road we’ve ever been on and we wouldn’t have had it any other way. We love you so much.
