Biography

Mel formed The Hermit Crabs in January 2003 after a band that she was playing drums in was put on hold. That band was called California Snow Story. Time passed, old line-ups were exchanged for new, exciting shows were played at fun locations, sometimes in very small villages.In 2005, Mel was a winner of the Burnsong national songwriting competition with a song called Feel Good Factor, and in January 2007 it became the title track of our debut release, a 4 track EP on the very excellent Matiné...

Time passed, old line-ups were exchanged for new, exciting shows were played at fun locations, sometimes in very small villages.In 2005, Mel was a winner of the Burnsong national songwriting competition with a song called Feel Good Factor, and in January 2007 it became the title track of our debut release, a 4 track EP on the very excellent Matinée Recordings, which you can buy online right now! The Spanish music zine El Planeta Amarillo included Feel Good Factor on it's cover cd and ran an interview with us as well - you can read it here.More recently, in October 2007 Matinée released our first album, 'Saw You Dancing'. We're super excited about it, and we hope to play lots of gigs to promote it in the near future. just out! On Slumberland Records, an awesome coloured vinyl 7" split single with The Company (who are Roy Moller, Stevie Jackson from B&S and Gary Thom from Astrid). It's a previously un-released song from us called Flaxen-Haired Boy, and a glam stomper from The Company called Join The Dots. This is the first in a series of split singles from Slumberland under the title 'Searching For The Now'.
