The Incredible Sandwich, formed in the fall of 2007, is a hard-hitting progressive rock band from one of the musical gems of the South, Athens, GA. May 2009 brought the release of their self-titled debut EP. The following June, the band won the award for “Upstart of the Year” at the 2009 Flagpole Athens Music Awards. After receiving considerable radio play, the band reached 11 on the Relix/Jamband.com radio charts for the month of October 2009 and has appeared on the Homegrown Music Network’s radio charts for 21 consecutive weeks as well. This eclectic quartet is rapidly amassing a strong fan base through their creative blend of musical styles that range from Progressive, Experimental and Psychedelic Rock with unexpected educated improvisations. “The Sandwich,” as they are known to their fans, features Matt McKinney on lead guitar and vocals, Kevin Juneau on bass guitar, Damian Kapcala ..boards, and Rackley Davis on drums and vocals. Three of the four members of The Incredible Sandwich hail from the heart of South Georgia and have received their educations from some of the South’s finest musical institutions. Damian Kapcala has a background in classical piano studies and joined the other three members after moving to Athens from Maryland. From classical training to live improvisation, The Incredible Sandwich has etched its way into a very respected facet of the musical community. The energy generated during their live shows through McKinney’s powerful command of the guitar combined with the thumping rhythm section of Juneau, the intricate percussion of Davis, all accentuated by Kapcala on organ and synthesizer, continues to convert more and more fans with each performance. Davis comments, “The fact that we share the same influences helps a lot with how we feed off each other. I think a lot of that goes into improvisation. We have a fine-tuned ear for each other’s instrument and style.” The Incredible Sandwich anticipates the Fall 2010 release of their first full-length album that was recorded and produced by John Keane in Athens, GA. This will be the band’s second release on Mule Train Records.
