THE MAIN DRAG use music production as an instrument in and of itself--cleverly stacking harmonies, synthesizers, guitars, strings, horns and drums within accessible songs. Poised to launch their third album YOU ARE UNDERWATER in January of 2010, the Boston collective make self-recorded and self-released sophisticated and infectious indie-pop that sneaks its way into your heart. YOU ARE UNDERWATER showcases a more mature sound for the band but still features the fun pop hooks that filled their previous albums. Synth-driven songs like “Don’t Let Me Down (Slowly)” and “Megatron,” while tracks such as “Homosuperior” and “Take Them Down” hint at the band’s more raucous side. Expanding on the band’s passion for including their works in new media, they are set to release YOU ARE UNDERWATER and the remainder of their second album, Yours As Fast As Mine, in early 2010 as playable tracks in the Rock Band Network, a new initiative that allows independent acts to sell their music to the Rock Band fanbase that THE MAIN DRAG has already conquered. All of the tracks for both albums will also be available as remixable stems from TheMainDrag.com, shared under a Creative Commons license. The band also continues to make new and exciting music videos with leading indie directors, including a new video from VMA nominated Issac Ravishankara (director of THE MAIN DRAG’s “A Jagged Gorgeous Winter”) and French duo Ben & Julia. The first album from THE MAIN DRAG, 2005‘s Simmer In Your Hotseat, was less of an album and more of a promise of things to come. Multi-instrumentalist Adam Arrigo and violinist/composer Matt Levitt met as students at Tufts University in 2003 and began collaborating on violin-based indie rock songs. Enter Harvard-based post-punk ensemble Blanks. After producing the first Blanks. Record alongside local engineer/producer Dan Cardinal, Arrigo began collaborating with Blanks. singer/guitarist Matt Boch, guitarist Jon Carter and drummer John Drake, marking the beginning of a new chapter for THE MAIN DRAG. The band began experimenting with recording as a means of songwriting: tracking solid studio takes into ProTools and chopping up the results into new textures and song structures. The new and current line-up of THE MAIN DRAG went on to win Salon.com’s “Best Unsigned Artist Contest” and, with reward money in hand and a bout of national press, decided to self-release a full-length on their own art collective’s imprint, RPL Audio. THE MAIN DRAG first found solid footing with fans with the full length, 2007’s Yours As Fast As Mine. The end product of a two-year period of writing, recording and touring, the album began to take off when its lead single, “A Jagged Gorgeous Winter,” was featured on the disc for the hugely popular video game Rock Band 2, exposing THE MAIN DRAG to a rabid group of nationwide fans of the game. Yours As Fast As Mine also received a significant push on air, taking the band to #78 on the CMJ Top 200 and garnering airplay and praise in key markets across the U.S. and in Europe. THE MAIN DRAG also put on a solid live show. They’ve traveled across the US and Canada sharing the stage with acts including The Arcade Fire, The Unicorns, Hot Chip and The Young Knives. The band have received rave reviews for their cover of LCD Soundsystem’s “All My Friends”--released exclusively to the Coke Machine Glow “Fantasy Covers” series--and had its track “Love During Wartime” featured in the February 2009 issue of Paste Magazine. ### themaindrag.com myspace.com/themaindrag
