WELCOME TO THE SHOW Written By: Michael Lee YOU know the story – new band forms, this is where they came from, and these are the influences, yeah yeah yeah enough. What really matters to a band on the up and up like Victoria’s – THE SHOW – is where they are going. If creative synchronicity is anything to go by then they are in for one hell of a ride. Made up of the deep and haunting lead vocals of Andrew Spark, the precision timing of the experienced lead guitarist Shane Demers, no nonsense axe man Bryan Chamberland, the ever present drums of Greg Harford and the solid bottom end of bassist Joe Ferreira – THE SHOW have been busy in the last six months carving out their own unique sound. With their debut album to be released in July - early indication points towards the group's life changing dramatically - as their first single Another Tear continues to strike listeners on Indie music site GarageBand.com. Produced by Craig Fraser at Oak Stone Sound in Victoria the track - written by Spark and Demers as are all of their new tracks - has won best male vocals for the past three weeks, best production, best melody, best guitars, best drums and the song is the current track of the week. This impact has been felt locally and across the pacific with comments like – ‘Lead vocals are very good, melody is catchy, this is a pretty new school rock song’ (Petu, Finland), ‘beautiful vocals full of feeling, great instruments, vocals and harmonies, just how it should be done’(Uncle Sid, Vancouver) and ‘the production on this track is excellent and sounds very professional. The vocal melody is strong with equally well-written lyrics. There are some nice guitar licks in this track that compliment both the arrangement and dynamics. For me the emotion conjured by the melodic guitar solo says it all.’ (theredtubes, UK) Their fresh, yet familiar sound immediately strikes you, presenting a group of musicians who have been around before and found their home in writing and playing music to form a collective that really works. A synchronicity that no member has felt before and while they list their influences coming from Seether, Breaking Benjamin and Nickelback, it’s the respect for each other as people and as musicians that has resulted in the bond, as Spark explains, while reflecting on some sound advice a week before their gig at Lucky Bar in Victoria. “I met Shane through a mutual industry friend last summer and everything just clicked. He was looking for something new and original as was I.” “My father told me early on not to put on a voice, sing with your real voice and at the time I didn’t know what that meant. Sometimes I hear it now during playback and wonder where the sound comes from. “Shane and I share a complimentary approach to writing and now with Greg, Bryan and Joe we really have formed a telepathic musical bond that I am grateful to be a part of,” he added. “It is always a lot of fun to play in your home town especially after Patrick Benti from Thornley called and asked if we were interested in opening for his new band Haard. “It was an automatic yes and we are looking forward to it,” he said. The gig will also mark the arrival of Bass player Joe Ferreira for his first local show. The bands newly developed website – www.onlytheshow.com - also features the heavier guitar riff riddled introduction Welcome To The Show, the new beginnings of Home To You and the searching for answers in Reasons Why. So, who are THE SHOW? Well, they formed in 2009, Spark has found his voice, and THE SHOW found their sound. Now the rest is up to you - Welcome to THE SHOW…
