The Tide is made up of five members: Colin Fleming, Bobby Shields, Chris Romanoff, Kevin Paap, and Andy Valde. The band is based in Hoffman Estates Illinois with Kevin who lives on Lakeshore Drive in Chicago. The band was formed in winter of 2008 - 09. Even though the band is fairly new, Chris, Colin, Bobby, and Andy have grown up together musically and in life as well. The Tide is made up of five members: Colin Fleming, Bobby Shields, Chris Romanoff, Kevin Paap, and Andy Valde. The band is based in Hoffman Estates Illinois with Kevin who lives on Lakeshore Drive in Chicago. The band was formed in winter of 2008 - 09. Even though the band is fairly new, Chris, Colin, Bobby, and Andy have grown up together musically and in life as well. After making their debut on the Hoffman Estates Fourth of July Fest main stage their goals are high for the future. Colin Fleming (Drummer) has been playing the drums since 6th grade. He attended Fremd High School (3,400 students) from 2004-2008 where the band director is quoted, in a newspaper article on Colin, as saying that Colin is the best percussionist to ever come through the school. In 2008 Colin was awarded #1 in the state of Illinois for percussion. His biggest influence is Carter Beauford from The Dave Matthews Band. Colin has taken his music one step further, now majoring in percussion performance on a full ride scholarship to Boston University. Kevin Paap (Vocalist) is a Milwaukee native now living in Chicago. Kevin has been performing since he was very young. In 2004 he won the Milwaukee Rock Star Contest sponsored by Time and Warner with over 50,000 votes. After winning his single “My Heart is Here” hit the Billboard Charts’ Adult Contemporary chart at number 72 which was played over over 200 times on 94.5 FM WKTI in Wisconsin. The following year he performed on the main stage at Summerfest in Milwaukee in front of thousands. Kevin has a very versatile ear but has taken a particular interest in artists like: Pink, Rachel Yamagata, and Dave Matthews. Chris Romanoff (Lead Guitar), is unarguably one of the best guitarist in the Chicago Suburbs. Never taking a single formal lesson, he started playing guitar with his father in 5th grade. Chris has a unique sound when he is playing guitar that a lot of guitarist want to have. From classic rock, to the roots of blues, to funk, Chris can play just about anything. His influences include Joe Satriani, Eddie Van Halen, and Slash. Bobby Shields (Rhythm Guitar), being next door neighbors with lead guitarist Chris, couldn’t help but find himself with a guitar in his hands in 5th grade. With a fascination for rhythm, Bobby plays everyday for 3 hours, and typically writes 2 songs a week. His love for music has lead him to various influences such as, Guns N Roses, Dave Matthews Band, Trevor Hall, and the late Silvertide. Andy Valde (Bass Guitar), has had an interest in playing an instrument since he was very young but officially started playing electric guitar in the 7th grade. Throughout junior high, Andy took guitar lessons to learn music theory and technique. As time went on he wanted to play music in a band so he started to play with a friend who played the drums. After quitting his guitar lessons, he decided to make the transition into the world of bass. He now has a very unique play style incorporating the traditional style of playing with his own form of slap bass. His influences are also very unique like: Tower of Power, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Shinedown, Guns and Roses, Weather Report, and Drowning Pool.
