For the past 2 and half years it feels as if hip hop has been dominated by one group, a group of extremely mainstream and commercial artists that have flooded hip hop with mindless lyrics, catchy hooks, and a luring beat. Most hip hop artist that used to stand for truth and meaning seem to have either faded away or have attempted to get on the band wagon that we currently are following in order to get more zeroes in there checks. Fans are beginning to lose faith in artists, leading to more free downloads, and in doing so record labels are facing the rigorous task of selling records to a shrinking demographic. However a new talent is over the horizon. Shawn Cayce aka PUSH isn't your everyday rapper. Raised in the Suburbs of Pinole, California, he picked up rap when he was around eleven years old. Over the next eight years he developed a unique style of rhyme and sound that is distinct to say the least. By the time PUSH got into high school, he began ciphering with pears, which slowly started to attract large crowds. By the time PUSH became a senior in high school, he began recording, and putting songs out for the people to hear, however once he graduated from high school, his parents forced him to go to medical school in India. In the crossroads of his future, PUSH felt the pressure of society and obliged to his parents wishes. In medical school PUSH realized that his passion for music was deeper and stronger than any social barrier. Knowing that the community he was raised in would not agree with his decision, PUSH dropped out of medical school to pursue his passion. Once PUSH came back to the United States in December of 07, he told his parents his decision, and in return his parents kicked him out of the house. With no money or support PUSH began compiling a EP, which his manager/friend sent to a Atlanta-based producer named Fingatips who worked with artists from Block ENT. Fingatip was more than pleased with the music, and gave PUSH 3 beats, of which PUSH delivered his signature swagger on. Fingatip would eventually take all 3 songs and put them in his compilation to be released nation wide in late 09. After that PUSH decided to create a line of mixtapes which he launched through myspace and other social networking and media sites called the Daily Prophet, which would have 4 mixtapes: The Genesis, XoDuS, New Testament, and Revelations. Once PUSH put out the Daily Prophet:Genesis his fan base started to appear. From Sacramento to the Bay Area. Even a few fans overseas in Germany and Australia. In October of 08, PUSH found out his music was being played on a radio station in cities around the central valley, which came about through a DJ who was friends with one of the people in his management. Most people did not know the artist or the songs names, but still called in to request songs from his EP and mixtape. In December Shawn found a internet music site, which is set to launch in the first few weeks of 09 called jambits.com. PUSH has already put his mark on the site by being the number one featured artist, and number 2 top artist, with his single at number 1. PUSH's word play and clever rhyme pattern has started to make an impression on many avid listeners over the internet. He is determined to have his voice heard, and help bring back the golden age of Hip-Hop. In a day where Hip-Hop has been pronounced dead, PUSH dares to raise the bar lyrically to proof the music is alive and prosperous.
