Once upon a time, June Caravel was known as T-ka. T-ka was living in a far-far away country on the other side of the Channel called France. But one day, leaving friends, family and musicians behind, she decided to cross the Channel and to abandon even her name. In England, she would be known as June Caravel: June for the month of her birth and Caravel because though she had travelled under water in a very strange and fast means of transport called the Eurostar, still the Caravel was evoking the journey to London in a much more dreamy way… She took time to immerse herself in the very busy life of London. One night she saw Bobby McFerrin, a singer coming from an even bigger and far-far away country called the USA. He was using his voice to do all sorts of incredible things. And June thought she wouldn’t mind being a sort of feminine Bobby McFerrin… So she started experimenting with her voice. Rearranging all sorts of airs and melodies and creating new ones with only her voice as an instrument. She also wanted to be able to play more instruments than only the piano and started learning guitar, bass and even marimba. But the very big change was in the way she started composing as soon as she set foot in England. When in France, she always used to compose with the piano. Since in London, all the melodies are first formulated with the voice, and then kept as such or channelled into an instrument. The only thing that remains the same is the style. June’s music remains utterly soul-pop. But being in the country which gave birth to punk, June also started feeling the influence and became more cheeky and rock’n’roll day after day. She founded the band My Car Is Black, an all female rock combo to give way to that influence. June is presently preparing an EP for her solo project called the A cappella sessions. Opened for… Tower of Power, Maceo Parker, Incognito, Robin Thicke, Cody Chestnutt, Malia, Syd Matters… Discography June Caravel - The A Capella Sessions EP (Release: 10/01/2012 - Paris upon Thames Records) June Caravel - London Song Single (2011 - Paris upon Thames Records) T-ka – And maybe a tree will rise out of me… (2008 - Sellaband) Bikini Rumble featuring T-ka – Almost Hydrofoiling (2005 - Montera Music)
