Jung Phil, aka, Shawn Summers was born on June 27th, 1986 and grew up in New Jersey and Philadelphia. A twin, and the middle child of three boys, He and his brothers were always clowning around and keeping their mother busy. Shawn’s performing abilities were evident from an early age, he was always entertaining his family and friends. Wherever there was a crowd, ... Shawn was in the middle performing. Around 11 and 12 years old, Shawn used to practice with an old radio of his mother’s. He would freestyle to Master P’s instrumentals. The older he became, the more his abilities grew and somehow he found himself articulating his experiences with witty rhymes and a fluid flo. Shawn’s back round has been diversified by every city he has called home. Cleveland’s flats, gritty Harlem, Philly, White-collar Albany, Akron and the mean streets of Pittsburgh, where he currently resides. Shawn had the enriching opportunity to grow up around music because his closest family members love and value music. His mother was very supportive with Shawn's music and was happy he had a creative outlet, she worked very hard to support the family and feared Shawn may have chose the wrong path. He did stray however, but his love of music and undeniable raw talent helped him to use his street smarts and ruff upbringing to his advantage and write instead of fight, as shown in his lyrics. In this creative atmosphere, Shawn was encouraged and taught by his older brother and uncle how to network and turn his love for music into a successful career. At the young age of 13, he performed for an audience for the first time, allowing him to hone in on his craft. From the first moment he stepped foot on stage, until now, Shawn’s aspirations have been to continue performing and never leave the stage. Through his hard work and connections, Shawn starting building vital relationships with other artists and industry people, thus propelling his career into high gear. In the years following, Shawn slowly developed into the artist known as Jung Phil. A long tedious process, but the process itself had been the creation behind the man. His hardships and struggle have given him the words and more importantly, the passion behind them, as anyone can feel in listening to his music. He debuted, “Best Kept Secrets,” and “Pistolvannia,” both mixed tapes and then moved onto creating his first album, “Freshman Vol. 1.” The success of his mixed tapes and album has only made Jung Phil hungrier and more determined than ever to be the best at what he does. His Hip Hop style has caught the attention of the ladies, his Rap songs have gained the respect of his peers, and his sweet R&B voice and slow seductive beats have made him unique, yet marketable to all ages, male and female alike. His invigorating stage presence and charisma have been learned throughout over 100 performances. Jung Phil has earned the incredible opportunity to have worked with Shiest-E, his mentor and teacher, who is DJ for Flavor Unit. Later in his career, after settling in Pittsburgh, he has worked with, “Gambino & Casino,” DJ Xavier, Driven Creations Promo, Cazzai Entertainment Management, Alumia Media, Faded Industry, V.L.S. Dark Angels, and La Familla Entertainment. Each artist and/or group has helped to add elements to Jung Phil’s music and his image, all of which have been vital to his success and his unlimited potential. Currently, Jung Phil is working on a new album with a completely new sound. He retained management with N.O.G. Entertainment LLC, Lamar Godson, and they have expanded his already rising career by having him work with known artists on this new album, “I Deserve This.” The title speaks for itself, he has earned all of the amazing opportunities he has been afforded. His new investors have introduced Jung Phil to a new producer, Ricky P, and a new studio. The sound quality is much improved and Ricky P’s engineering abilities have propelled Jung Phil into a more mainstream and commercial star. This new opportunity continues to inspire him every time he steps into the booth in the studio to work with Ricky P and his beats. These new elements and influences have inspired Jung Phil's best work to this date, as the world will see when his new album is finished and released.
