Atlanta-based, 25-year-old Tyler Herrin is fresh off of his debut release, “A Simple Necessary.” Showcasing upbeat melodies, his 10-track album proves that an artist should not be confined to one genre. “Growing up, I was surrounded by all different kinds of music - my Dad was big into the golden era of country music, my Mom was into everything from The Monkees to Elton John and I landed right in the middle,” says Herrin. As most musicians, Herrin found a place in a high-school band. “We were awful, but we had a blast. We were into punk-rock, so volume and speed were more of a concern than practice and accuracy,” he says with a grin. A few years later found Herrin at college, along with his guitar (by then, he had put down the electric and was never far from an acoustic). “I played EVERYTHING during college gigs and it was the best learning experience. With college students, you better know a lot of genres, songs, etc. because you have to keep everyone happy.” With influences that range heavily from Barenaked Ladies and Blink 182 to Coldplay and The Beatles, it’s evident upon listening to “A Simple Necessary,” that Herrin goes far and wide with his original music. “...At the end of the day, I like to have fun with my music. Would I like to write masterpieces? Absolutely. Will a masterpiece ever come? I have my fingers crossed, but for now, I’m learning as I go and could not be having more fun,” says Herrin.
