Under The Rasta Influence (URI) began nearly three years ago when front man Donovan Ernest teamed up with skilled producer and drummer Rusty Mack, and bassist Sean Lewis to form an authentic and original reggae band. U.R.I. went thorugh many changes and grew and drew from many influences, emerging complete with cellist and vocalist Taylor Cannizzaro, vocalist Whitney Brown, guitarist Tim Shipman, keyboardist Mike DeRosa., and drummer Omari Darcheville. Each member brings something unique to the band, forging a style and sound that is distinct and very much their own. Donovan’s infectious charisma and voice captivates crowds, and somewhere between the unique lead stylings of Tim's guitar and the strut of Sean’s bass, URI delivers an intense and energy-driven show that is unparalleled, and maintains a high level of musicianship. U.R.I. has opened for hip hop acts The Brand Nubians, Dead Prez, Jadakiss, Styles P, The Beatnuts, Cassidy, and reggae acts Luciano, Glen Adams, Milton Henry, and Everton Blender. Recently the band recorded for FOX TV, and won grand prize at SOURCE Magazine’s Cipher 24 Music Industry Concert. This Summer U.R.I. was the backing band for the Brooklyn African Arts Festival, played and recorded with St. Lucia's number one reggae artist Cherry L, and won a spot on the bill of the annual Culture Shock Music Festival in the Spring '09 by beating 51 other bands at their native SUNY Purchase. Under the Rasta Influence is currently in the studio recording their debut album with no end in sight.
