Vencedoras, formerly known as Destinadas, is one of the first all-female regional Mexican bands in which their members play an instrument and write their own music, something rare yet appealing in the genre. The four sisters began with Destinadas in 2007. They are generally classified as a Norteño/Tex-Mex act; however, they perform songs in a variety of styles including rancheras, corridos, cumbias, and ballads. Vencedoras have performed in major cities across the nation and participated in prime festivals including Back of the Yards and Viva Chicago Latin Musical Festival where their image was exclusively chosen to appear in the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) buses and trains. Radio stations such as La Ley (Chicago), La Gran D ( Milwaukee ), La Caliente ( Louisville ) and La Mejor ( Nashville ) have invited Destinadas to be a part of their events. They have been featured in various TV shows and print including WGN’s “Adelante Chicago” and “Teleguia de Chicago.” Their first album “La Ironia del Destino” (The Irony of Destiny) was independently released in 2008 with ten tracks, written and produced by the four elements. One of their singles “La de Juarez,” is the story of femicide in Cd. Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico where thousands of young women have been victims of rape and mutilation. Through their music they plan to support women and send a message of hope to the community. Vencedoras are determined to change the image of women in regional Mexican music by including social and humanitarian views in their style. Vencedoras is currently preparing to record their second album in English and Spanish with their new name and plan to hit various Mexican regions in the following year. In the meantime, they continue to prove that women can be equally accepted in the male dominant Norteño industry.
