Growing up in Dallas, TX at the age of 5 Calvin Aterberry, a.k.a VERSE, discovered his love for music in elementary school, singing throughout the hallways, singing the National Anthem in front of his first microphone, the P.A system in the principal's office every morning. Being in the presence of such great musicians produced the musical sensation, VERSE!!! the Singer, Songwriter, Sultry, R&B Crooner who definitely knows how to get the ladies in the mood. With the voice of a calming rain, that turns into an emotional vocal storm. Singing, writing and performing his own music is first nature. For the past 24yrs, his God given talent have been groomed by some of musics pioneers, like his mother, Benita Arterberry, who in 1984 was a contestant on Star Search, later being signed to SBK records along with Vanilla Ice. In 1990, she released her first debut album, which charted 1 overseas, also being called to sing on a track for The Most High UGK. Verse, being the grandson of The Late Great “The Whailer” Johnnie Taylor and growing up around musicians such as Yarbrough&Peoples, The Mac Band and Lakeside, just to name a few. Music has become a way of life!!!! This talented gentlemen credits his musical influence to some of musics greats, past and present, for paving the way for his Dream. Greats such as Donnie Hathaway, Layla Hathaway, Dave Hollister, Guy, Troop, Michael Jackson, Gerald Levert, The Whispers ,The O'Jays, BabyFace, After Seven, Tony Terry, Will Downing, Luther Vandross, Usher, Anthony Hamilton, Tank, and Music Soulchild. Listening and Learning from these talented people has brought out the desire to share his music, with the same gift of music within, but with his own unique talent. Putting out his first independent album titled Just A Piece, along with the awesome responses from listeners that have experienced Just a Piece and what VERSE has to say is nothing more than confirmation that VERSE will be named as one of R&B Greats.
