Biography

Hey, I’m Sophie Morgan and music is in my blood and in my bones. Music is my life. I’ve been writing for several years now and performing pretty much all my life. Hey, I’m Sophie Morgan and music is in my blood and in my bones. Music is my life. I’ve been writing for several years now and performing pretty much all my life. If I could find a plank of wood to stand on, I’d call it a stage and perform. My first proper performance was when I was about nine, singing My Immortal by Evanescence in a local theatre and after that, I was hooked. Piano is my main instrument but I can play guitar and manage the drums. While everyone else is in school choosing proper jobs like accountants or lawyers, there’s me just wanting to play my music and maybe one day to headline an Arena. I have an eclectic taste in music. From Frank Sinatra and theatre songs with my Grandad, to My Chemical Romance, The Cure and The Counting Crows with my dad! Over the past few years, I have really got into folk and country music and I think it has really inspired my writing style to be narrative and has influenced my overall sound. I’m always jotting down lines and phrases ready for my next song, or typing notes or recording voice memos in my phone when a spark of inspiration hits me. I adore writing songs. It is just the best feeling when I write a song that I am proud of, finding words, chords and melodies to describe my complicated feelings. My dream is for my songs to reach someone else and for them to be able to relate to them or maybe sing them back to me. I really enjoy the recording process, as it’s such a creative and inspiring time and the studio is where I get some of my best, spontaneous ideas. I first recorded when I was seven, in a little studio called Frog Studios and now I am recording my own songs frequently. I travel down to London monthly for vocal coaching by David and Carrie Grant, who are amazing people and have gorgeous kids! I have recently won an international competition run and judged by my favourite band The Counting Crows. A real honour. I covered one of my favourite Crows songs, ‘Holiday in Spain’, and when I found out that I was the winner, it really was one of the best moments because of the sheer influence the band has had on me. I really think I would be a different writer/singer all together if my dad had never introduced me to them from the day I was born, laying the foundations to my taste in music. Things are really starting to happen for me now with the help of some very talented musicians. I am currently recording many of my original songs at Faktory Studios in Great Barrow, Chester. Simon Jones, the Bass player from the iconic British band ‘The Verve’ is a real mentor figure to me, in addition to playing bass on the tracks and helping to produce them. I am currently in the process of putting a talented group of young musicians together to form my band. 2013 looks like a very exciting year for me. Thank you for taking the time to read about me and my music!
