There’s a new voice in town and whatever category you want to place her in, Indie/Folk/Pop whatever… she is pure Yazmín and she’s going to make you rock and weep as her voice, music, and lyrics alternately dispel all barriers to your heart and head. At twenty years of age it’s extraordinary how her music can lead you to the centers of who you are, and who you just might want to be. This is a young woman with the soul and the talent that get you there. Her songs draw from deep musical wells that span Caribbean rhythms and ancient Celtic melodies. Blending and mixing in perfect proportions, she crosses traditional boundaries into new landscapes, taking us all along for a ride we won’t soon forget.   Music came to Yazmín easily, as both of her parents are professional musicians-her mother a songwriter, her father a violinist. At three she took the stage for the first time, singing a song she’d written with her mother, when they performed as an opening act for Arlo Guthrie. Not one feather rippled on her small back even when the eight-hundred plus audience stood up and cheered for the fearless singer/songwriter.  From 2005 to 2010 Yazmín played in the six-piece world music ensemble, Six around One. Throughout that time she studied Latin piano intensively with Rebeca Mauleon-Santana of San Francisco. From 2008 to 2010 she was bandleader of her own Latin ensemble, La Banda Nueva, based out of the Twin Cities. She performed extensively throughout Minnesota and Wisconsin with this group and made one recording, La Banda Nueva: Live at the Alvord. She’s  currently touring the country with her duo “Beat Zero” and promoting her new solo album, appropriately entitled, Solo. Her specialties include keyboards and vocals, and she has incredible support from the likes of award winning Bruce Bowers who creates rich and energetic sounds that add volume, sweetness, and grit with his masterful violin, and guitar, as well as harmony vocals.  Veteran songwriter Nanci Griffith said this about Yazmín’s music after she opened for her during a live performance June 2011 at the Lake Superior Big Top Chautauqua in Bayfield, Wisconsin: " …She was incredible. I sat out on the porch, up the hill a little bit, and I was transported to another place. How brilliant is she? She is absolutely fantastic. What a voice, what a keyboard player, just absolutely extraordinary! "
