Chris “Young Bruus” Hughes is an Underground Music Award-winning artist/producer from Chicago’s North Side and it’s infamous now-demolished Cabrini-Green housing projects. He is the embodiment of the struggle of young minority males in today’s American society. The acronym behind his name (Bringing Reality Uncut Utilizing Sound) clearly reflects what’s he’s about. At age 18, Hughes started to rap and produce simultaneously after a friend heard heard a spoken word poem from him. He initially hesitated, but after entering a recording studio for the first time, he KNEW this was what he wanted to do. But also by this time, he was engulfed into a world of violence and despair, and didn’t give his full attention to music until 3 close friends (who all vigorously encouraged him to pursue this as a career) died from various circumstances.Since Hughes made that fateful decision to pursue music as a career he has experienced triumphs and tragedies. He independently released 4 high-quality videos and featured in several others over a 18-month span to critical acclaim and fanfare, and snagged a trophy at the 2010 Underground Music Awards for Video of the Year, by fan vote, for the video to his bouncy, raunchy single “I’m Raw”. He’s been featured on vladtv.com, yoraps.com, allhiphop.com, defsounds.com, thedailyloud.com & The Northern Star Newspaper to name just a few media outlets. Despite that success, Hughes has dealt with homelessness throughout his 20s, and his experiences with it is the driving force behind the aggressive, hungry tone in his voice, and much of his music. His in-your-face commentary, along with cunning wordplay & sometimes arrogant vocal cadence is a mixture that has had his listeners compare him with the likings of 50 Cent & Lil Wayne; yet his passion has drawn him to great martyr of hip-hop: Tupac Shakur.Hughes in early 2012 made the decision to move to Los Angeles, CA to remove himself from the harsh conditions of urban Chicago & to further pursue his dream to become hip-hop’s musical spokesman for the underprivileged. He has since started his own imprint (iCONS iNCORPORATED), re-released his award-winning video”I’m Raw” to a brand new market, and will release an independent project “N.O.W.(Never Or Whenever”) in summer of 2012. If there’s one thing Young Bruus exemplifies, it’s diligence, refusal to give up, and a message for the world.
