There are two notorious areas that are ran by these groups, “Southeast San Diego” and “East San Diego”. A way for these people to find a way out of these struggles is to vent through their lyrics. There are certain standards for rappers coming out of San Diego. There is lots of talent and lots of competition but along with the competition and talent comes a lot of adversity. Rapper Corey Thompson known as YOUNGGEE, born June 8th, 1987, is ready to face all the challenges that come along with being one of hip-hop's top rappers. His father launched a record label, “OutThaGate Records”. At the age of eleven this inspired him to become a musician. Starting off wanting to produce beats, but later discovered a lyrical gift that people enjoyed to hear. His inspiration for the music came from great rappers such as; 2pac, Notorious B.I.G, Snoop Dogg, E-40, Too Short, B-Legit, Ice Cube, WC, Mack 10, Sir Mix-a lot, Jay-Z, Nas and the list goes on. What inspires him to make music and to make it in this industry is his family and the struggles he's been through as a kid. YOUNGGEE’S music is based on things he experienced as a child and also things he is experiencing as a man. At the age of thirteen he joined a gang, “East Dago Mob 44 Crips”. Running the streets as a young teen gave him the ammo to put his life into music. Having two sons and knowing what he knows now, he encourages kids and young teens to finish school and become somebody. First and foremost he would like to thank God for allowing him to express himself and still be here. YOUNGGEE has came out with his first mixtape, “Scrillafornia Vol. 1” that hit San Diego and other well known areas and became popular in the streets. On Febuary 13th, 2009 “Scrilliafornia Vol.2” was released with more maturity, growth and production. This mixtape was far more popular, with the success of the mixtape he was able to hit one million plus plays on myspace and thousands of downloads. For the year of 2009 he will be working on his next mixtape, “Scars and Tattoos”. He is currently on an independent record called “Crunch Entertainment” known as the Crunch Gang. He has been rapping for ten years, now being a father to two sons and also married, he doesn't only want to make it for himself but for his family.You can expect great things from the 21 year old up and coming artist, his name is already starting to buzz in the hip-hop community.
