“We’ve included a couple of songs below from this outstanding album for your listening pleasure. “Bird On A Wire” is a catchy electro tune with great vocal hooks from the outstanding Andrews. It’s a song about “efforts in vain and lost energy.” Andrews wrote the song as she was thinking about birds hanging out on power lines/phone/data lines and how they’re perched right where all this information travels under their feet, and they never know it. In “Life Support”, Andrews builds her song on human need to be awake, engaging, alive and understanding that we as humans can avoid shutting down. Serena Andrews is a self-described “backwoods-nerd-turned-city.” She writes and records her brand of clever indie pop-electro from the closet of her New York City studio apartment. Andrews is formally trained in both classical and jazz – you’ll hear that in her music, along with her obvious love for ‘80s pop and New Wave. Since Forplay doesn’t do interviews, I can’t relay the 30 odd minutes spent chatting with Serena about non-musical topics. I can say that there is some synth, some keyboard, and a great voice in the mix.
