About the Artist

Valerie is a young and ambitious hard rock/glam metal band from Arendal; a small town in southern Norway. Known for their big, sing-along choruses and guitar riffs, along with blistering guitar solos and harmonies – Their music is often referred to as a cross between great 80s acts like Dokken, Ratt, Europe and a more modern rock sound. It’s melodic, catchy, in your face hard rock. Valerie is 1987 in 2012.

During their short career (2 years and counting), Valerie has grown a strong reputation in their home county, but also made their mark on the national glam/sleaze scene. In June 2011 they released their first 2-track demo (Taste the bullet, Love is like a heart attack) and both songs reached the number one spot on www.urørt.no (A national site for underground music owned and promoted by the national state television channel NRK).

Brian Rademacher from RockEyez.com said the following in his review of the demo :

“For a young band like VALERIE to show talent like a seasoned veteran group; from the soaring guitar work by BT Valerie (not to mention his vocals) to the uplifting midsection of bassist Augustus Clark and drummer Erlend Omdal and rhythm guitar Magnus Christiansen. These guys have the sound of staying power and these two tracks just blew me away. Both songs are killer and I can’t wait for more to come from them “

The band performed at the legendary club “Elm Street” in Oslo with W.A.S (Chris Holmes etc) before they closed down, and recently supported Chris Slade Steel Circle (Chris Slade, Keri Kelli, Chris Glen etc) at their only 2012 gig in Norway.

In June 2012, Valerie released their s/t debut album on Hellish Records. The album truly shows Valerie’s distinct, but diverse sound. From aor driven pop-melodies like When two hearts collide and Love is like a heart attack to fist-pumping hard rock anthems such as Tear down the walls and It’s not love – It’s not war, the record is full-out 35.minutes of catchy melodic hard rock.

Cast your eyes down the list of song titles on Valerie‘s self-titled debut album, check out the cover, stick the first track on, and if you’ve been listening to music long enough you might just dismiss them as yet another 80′s retro outfit plundering the treasures of the past only to serve up a chest full of ghosts. That’s OK by this band though — who tell us that their sound is ’1987 in 2012′ and it’s hard to argue with them. The album’s an arresting set of tracks that’ll stalk you from day one. Anthemic standouts “Heat Of The Night”, “When Two Hearts Collide”, “Taste The Bullet” and “Tear Down The Walls” keep the air punching’ foot tappin’ tempo alive and kickin’. Producer Bard Torstensen has made this band sound formidable while guitarists BT Valerie andMagnus Christiansen provide an imposing display of riffery and finely crafted solos that consistently excite but never indulge. The rhythm section of bassist Augustus Clark and skins man Erlend Omdal underpin the outfit and it’s clear that the band understands that it’s the song that carries the music. At only eight tracks Valerie do well to favor quality over quantity, and a special mention must go to the evocative closing ballad “Love Is Not Enough” which would sit well on any Scorpions or Great White album and yet has that something special that gives these Norwegians a trademark sound. If you loved it then… you’ll love Valerie now.

After naming VALERIE one of the best new bands of 2011 and having their debut EP getting five stars on RockEyez http://www.rockeyez.com/reviews/cd/valerie/rev-2011-08-bmr-valerie-2011-demo-5-0.html VALERIE are back with their self titled full length release with eight tracks. My hopes are really high for this band and I hope the new disc will measure up. These guys, for such young talent really explode and blow my mind. The opening track "It's Not Love – It's War" rips right off the bat. Great lyrics and moving guitar work by BT Valerie plus his vocals can reach the masses. VALERIE is a full-package band that brings sleaze and melodic rock to its knees. Track two, "Heat Of The Night", is another killer track that has a gripping chorus and I love the change of direction in music, how the hell do these guys master songs when even veteran musicians lack that spark that VALERIE possesses. When Two Heart Collide" brings back memories of the great 80's sound and is a bit poppy but has that radio air-play vibe. VALERIE rocks with "Vixen", which has a touch of DOKKEN to the music and BT Valerie steps it up with drummer Erlend Omdal showing his chops too. There ya go with a heavy hitter "Tear Down The Wall" once again the chorus brings the levels up and the midsection of bassist Augustus W.Clark and drummer Erlend Omdal make themselves noticed. The chorus on this one has that great sound of CRASHDIET and BT Valerie really goes off with rhythm guitarist Magnus Christiansen adding depth. I gotta listen to this one again…ANTHEM!!!! The next two tracks were included on their 2011 EP and both are outstanding "Love Is Like A Heart Attack" and "Taste The Bullet". Just listen to these two tracks and you can hear VALERIE has grown and I'm not taking anything away from these two songs because I love them both but I feel the new tracks are a bit heavier in direction. I don't know if I'm sentimental but these are my two favorite tracks on the disc with "Tear Down The Wall" right up there. Hold up do I hear Augustus W. Clark standing tall with the keys? Yes, it's the man himself shining on "Love Is Not Enough"! This might be my favorite track and it's a ballad to boot. These guys should be burning up the charts with this one. It's a phenomenal tune. VALERIE… remember that name as these guys are young and have plenty of room to grow but to me they made it already. Congrats guys!
