Life partners and creative collaborators since the late 80s, Nanette and Maurice began their career together touring Europe with their own jazz groups. In New York, they went on to compose for contemporary dance, multimedia and experimental theater. In the 90s they became deeply involved in the study of Afro-Cuban sacred music with master drummer-santero Felipe Garcia Villamil, with extensive field in Cuba. In 2000, the composers authored the instructional book: The Sacred Music of Cuba: Bata Drumming Matanzas Style.  Their 2005 CD Alchemy: A Tribute to Frankie Malabe honors the innovations of another collaborator. Alchemy brings the unique style of the master Afro-Cuban percussionist into a contemporary classical context. As indie artists, the composers move from one genre to another mixing influences, exploring sound and recording techniques without boundaries.  There’s not one word to describe their work…. PoP-ARt maybe..?    Maurice and Nanette are strong supporters of the new wave of innovators and host artists of all disciplines at there performance space in Westchester NY. These performances are sponsored by the Talking Arts Foundation established by the couple in 2007.  In addition, they are the creators of the Talk n Drum Language & Music Program for Preschoolers which has been offered in school and daycare centers throughout Westchetser, Brooklyn and NYC since 2005.
