© When summers almost over and the days begin to fly when the sign says back to school and even tough kids cry my mind begins to wander and my soul begins to croon a song sung 'round the campfire beneath the harvest moon If I was a cowboy I'd have a Pony I'd have rattle snake for lunch instead of baloney and I'd ride off into that sunset If I really wanted to But what would a singing cowboy do daddy's sleepin' on the couch and moms gone into town my brothers a teenager now you don't see him around but somewhere down the river there's a place over a hill its getting to late for me to go there now but maybe someday I will If i was a cowboy, I'd have a sidekick He'd talk to the mule and teach you a card trick and we'd eat off metal dishes and have a dog named blue thats what singing cowboys do when trouble comes around I'd save the ranchers daughter and chase all the outlaws out of town but when I finish singing She'd be waving from the porch I'd ride off on my pony in a cloud of dust of coarse some kids are good in school some are good at sports others have to play guitar thats all their good for now cowboys have to work all day but singing cowboys cant they're rehearsing with the gang for the saturday night dance If I was a cowboy nothin would scare me I'd sleep under the stars, right under the praire and I could ride off into the sunset If I really wanted to But what would a singing cowboy do
