She disappears like a wish into the ether a child of breezes and summer wind one step ahead of an empty bed she is not without her lovers and her friends Chorus and yes, I think she's an angel on blacktop behind the wheel and everything between what she is and what she lets you see that's where she is the angel os the road if there's a window, a hole in your heart a cartoon whirlwind in the space behind your ribs it's not running she's doing it's more like flight to where she's going not just where she's been Chorus She's traded her wings for the endless streams of the boulevard her knowing extends to where the path never ends so say goodbye to your angel of the road She's gone just like a thought, thought then gone the soles of her boots flashing semaphore she slides behind the wheel of her little red ford finds an open road where there wasn't one before
