Description
This song was written in an Apco gas station, in Ardmore, Ok., in June of 1979. I really was in a car with the engine blown to hell, as I was leaving a bigamist wife in Texas. As god is my witness, that is the truth!
Lyrics
Texas Exodus Written by: Barry Lee Dunn, June17, 1979 I pulled out of Gladewater, goin' on half past eight. I was hopin' to make good time, since I started out so late. “bout the time I crossed the Red River, a rattle started under my hood, And I knew the odds were bad, 'cause it sure didn't sound to good. Well I've got all I own here with me, but it'll work out. 'cause I've got a few friends that still know what life's about. So I'll stay with this blown out hulk and catch some ZZZ's tonight, Then limp it into town and make some calls when it comes daylight. Chorus Well I'm stranded on a highway, my engine blown to hell. You ask me if I give a Damn, I'll say it's just as well. “cause this old car reminds me of the good times we had, But it's the bad ones, now, that's really drivin' me mad. Lead break(s) Now this Oklahoma sunshine seems just fine, to me, “cause I'm free as the breeze, and that's the way I need to be. It's been a short time comin', be a long time gone away. Now I'm free of you, baby, it's the dawn of a brand new day. “cause, I'm free of you, baby, it's the dawn of a brand new day. Yeah, I'm free of you, baby, it's the dawn of a brand new day. That's it , baby, I'm out of here, see ya later, I'm gone.
