Lyrics

I don't recall who came first to be the one to tell that everything that I did wrong would send me straight to hell! There's always someone saying "Get on your knees and pray Cuz rock and roll will kill your soul" not to mention that I'm gay. They want me to repent From being ten percent But I stir their discontent when I tell 'em to get bent They forecast my demise All because I'm kissing guys They offer me advice but then I look them in the eyes I say, "Your religion's not for me it's too bad that you don't see That the dogma you decree has no objectivity So I've said it all before I don't want your holy war Have you met my slamming door? Let me show you what it's for!" You say a good book told you so And it's the only way that I can know a path to God and not be led astray But don't you think (well, no you don't) that God is more than words? "Well now you're REALLY goin' to hell!" Yeah, so I've heard Since the day I could recall I knew anything at all Of what was to befall When you pound against the wall I have tried to comprehend all the half-truths they defend of what God would recommend from a book that mortals penned It's the Christian way of life Get yourself a pretty wife Just make sure she's not a dyke or a hairy guy named Mike And rock and roll is vile Let's burn records in a pile Send Judas Priest to trial Over their artistic style Religion has one goal It's all to build control Over those who don't extol All the precepts they behold Like God is getting pissed Over Sundays that I missed Or that I should not exist Just because my flapping wrist? I haste to contradict The credo you depict That only Christians are handpicked Not to fall into a pit Now please don't misperceive What I do or don't believe Hey, we might just agree There might be divinity So I'm glad you feel elation Over your view of creation So have your celebration But respect my situation I've got my own belief My own unique motif So leave me to my peace Stop playing God's police Don't tell ME what to do Based on what YOU think is true I don't want to start a coup but.... You think God's just like YOU?? For those who are self-righteous Who claim to be enlightened It's sad that me and my guitar Are of what they are frightened Just take a look around the world There's so much more to give Believe that all you have to do is just live and let live But nooooo.... Here they come again with a chorus of "Amens" Telling me over again That my life I should amend Only their version is right Bible verses they recite "Oh, why don't you see the light? God can change you overnight!" Now, if God wants me to change Maybe that can be arranged But I find it kind of strange That their doctrine won't explain How Leviticus can say That two men are not OK but there's nothing in the way About two girls who like to play Must be the reason why All the straight boys like to eye Two girls who would vie To be each others cherry pie It just don't make no sense It keeps me in suspense How prejudice dispensed Supports their bold pretence You can keep your accusations Your infantile fixations That God puts stipulations on who deserves salvation I'm not listening any more I think you've met my slamming door Same drill as before Here's what it's for!
