THE PRICE WE ALL PAY ©1997 by Roger Dodge Low rider cruising the barrio slows, Tinted window drops, gunfire glows, In the black of the night as life blood flows, Innocent and guilty lives come to a close. Just spray ‘em down with bullets all the trigger man knows, Duck and run or your the one ‘cause anything goes! Hooded out homies tweak and geek, Run out of money to maintain a peak, Stone jonesing eyes quick cash seek, Pop some caps at the all night store and don’t even speak, As the cashier dies his last thoughts freak, For his pregnant wife ‘cause their child’s due next week! Police under pressure as the newspaper cries, The deadly storm is now a norm that no one denies. A rookie cop screams out stop - the suspect flies, The runner caught a single shot, the wrong man dies. Prosecutor says the rookie fries, but if he’s rich, Defense attorneys plead and sell their lies, How long will it take until we all get wise? Radical extremists with prejudice views, Idolizing Hitler for his take on the Jews, Like careful moms make homemade bombs to maim and abuse, In ethnic-racial-civil war for hate they can’t loose, Tragically we watch it on the evening news, As innocent victims’ families grieve from the pews. What “ domestic tranquility “ exists today? “Uphold justice” just another oath to betray. Founding fathers roll in their graves where they lay, Corruption has perverted the American way. Who can afford the price we all pay? It’s our home too! Rich to poor, black to white, straight, bi or gay, Better take a stand before we throw it away!
